Dealing With Chronic Headaches? Find Out What You May Need To Do To Get Some Relief

by Ben Richardson

Do you often experience headaches during the day? If you're dealing with headaches multiple times a week, there is a bit of a problem. In fact, the pain from a tension headache could become severe, ultimately turning into a migraine that practically becomes debilitating. If you're having a difficult time getting through each day at work because the pain becomes nearly unbearable, you'll need to speak with your physician. In the meantime, there are certain things you should try doing to prevent those terrible headaches from occurring.

Try to Reduce the Stress in Your Life

If you're dealing with chronic headaches, you may be concerned about your health, wondering if you have some sort of serious undiagnosed condition. Although it's possible, many people suffer from serious tension headaches because they're constantly stressed out. Did you know your stress could be one major cause of the headaches you're experiencing?

While it may not be possible for you to reduce your workload at the office, there are still different ways to reduce stress. Once you're done work for the day, try to unplug. Avoid thinking about work when you get home. Go for a jog to take your mind off anything that is bothering you. If you don't like jogging, do some yoga or simple exercises at home. Visit a massage therapist, take a soothing bath with one of those neat bath bombs, or even give yourself a pedicure. Do small things each day to make yourself feel good and to relieve some of the stress in your life.

Consult With an Optometrist

Do your headaches start developing in the middle of the day? You may have been staring at a computer screen or reading through fine print for several hours by that point. Eye strain can certainly cause headaches to occur, but there is something else that could be going on. You could potentially have issues with your vision that you're not even aware of right now. The best way to find out if you're having trouble with your vision is to consult with an optometrist. The optometrist will complete an eye exam as well as different tests to find out if something is wrong with your vision. There is a possibility you have astigmatism or hyperopia, which is often referred to as farsightedness. Those with farsightedness may be able to see from a distance, but typically struggle to properly see things that are right in front of them. These vision imperfections are often corrected with a pair of prescription reading eyeglasses.

If you have a vision imperfection and you need prescription reading eyeglasses for adults, the optometrist can write out a prescription, and you can take that prescription to an optician. The optician is a professional who will be able to carefully create a pair of reading eyeglasses or eye contacts for you to use based on the prescription that was recommended for you by the optometrist. Once you get the glasses or contacts and start to use them while working, you may no longer experience those random and extremely painful headaches.

Focus on Getting an Adequate Amount of Sleep

Aside from working on reducing stress in your life and finding out if you have a vision problem that could cause you to experience these severe headaches, try to make sure you're getting an adequate amount of sleep at night. If you're not getting rest, you have a greater risk of experiencing headaches throughout the day. Not getting enough sleep could turn into a trigger for you, causing the headaches to develop. It may be easier said than done, but there are different things you can do to improve your sleep. Avoid napping during the day so that you're actually tired at a decent time, avoid staring at your phone or any electronic screen at least an hour before you hit the sheets, and try using a soothing nighttime lotion on your body to help you relax as you get ready to go to bed.

If you've been dealing with headaches for quite some time, there could be a number of different things causing them to occur. You could be dealing with a lot of stress, suffering from an undiagnosed vision problem, not getting enough sleep at night, or even dealing with a combination of all three of these issues. Make sure you're doing what you can to reduce stress, get more sleep, and find out if you need glasses to correct your vision.

About Me

Care for Your Eyes Well to Preserve Your Good Vision

I still remember the day my mom took my family for our annual eye exams and I found out that I needed to start wearing eyeglasses. I really enjoyed picking out my first pair, and they were pink with cartoon characters on them! When I entered high school, my parents let me begin wearing contact lenses. I was afraid to put them in my eyes, but I was brave and did it! I recently began having lens discomfort, and I was really worried I would be told by my eye doctor that I wouldn't wear contacts anymore. I was grateful when he told me that I simply had dry eye and needed to use lubricant drops and wear my glasses a bit more often. I have since become dedicated to caring for my eyes well and I decided to start a blog to help others learn how too, too!
